TechCrunch reported that a “trusted source” revealed Verizon was denying its employees vacation between September 21 and 30, most likely in preparation for the iPhone 5 release date. It is reported that AT&T is also turning down vacation requests from its employees within the same period.
Vacation blackouts from Apple and carriers have previously preceded the launch of new iPhones. Major publications have reported that “sources” informed them the event would be held on September 12, with the first report coming from iMore. These sources are most likely from the Apple PR.
Going by Apple’s history, the company usually makes its products available soon after hosting such events. Online pre-orders generally start soon after the events and retail store purchases usually start within 10 days to ride on the excitement created. The company has always released its smart phones just after a week from the unveiling events except for the very first iPhone.
Earlier reports had predicted the release date in October but there are more pointers to a September release. In addition to the marketing strategy explained above, the earlier date will give the iPhone 5 a better opportunity to compete with Galaxy S3, the latest smart phone from Samsung.
People are waiting for the official invitation to the unveiling event to confirm the iPhone 5 release date rumors.
